City of the week: VERSAILLES

The commune of Versailles sprung up around the much-lionised Palace of Versailles, around the 17th century. It is a suburb of the capital city Paris. Other than the renowned Palace, Versailles is notorious for being the cradle which nursed the French revolution, and following the signing of the treaty of Versailles after the first World War, the city became a household name. 2000 acres in size and home to over 83,000 people, Versailles is far more than an offshoot of its parent city. It is within in its own right a legend- once the capital of the French kingdom, now a living, breathing museum of culture and history.
